Prime Minister Receives Invitation from King Charles III for CHOGM 2024
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from His Majesty King Charles III, during which the King formally invited the Prime Minister to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, scheduled for October 2024. Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that this CHOGM would mark a historic moment as the first summit chaired by King Charles since his accession as Head of the Commonwealth.
The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to the Commonwealth and the principles outlined in the Commonwealth Charter. He noted that CHOGM 2024 would provide an essential platform to enhance cooperation on key issues, including sustainable development, strengthening democratic institutions, and empowering youth across Commonwealth nations.
Acknowledging the King’s enduring commitment to environmental causes, Prime Minister Sharif expressed his anticipation to engage with other Commonwealth leaders on the urgent issue of climate change, particularly given Pakistan’s vulnerability to its impacts.
The Prime Minister also inquired about the King’s health and conveyed his best wishes for Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales following her successful treatment. Reflecting on the King’s last visit to Pakistan as the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister expressed his hope that the King and Her Majesty The Queen would visit Pakistan again in the near future.
